UNITY
I am most fortunate. I received an excellent education at public schools starting out in a three room school house. Maybe my vast knowledge is due to being exposed to second and third grade studies while in first grade. I received exposure to the legal justice system by watching trials take place on the stage in the seventh and eighth grade class room, which was taught by the principal. If someone committed what was considered an offense, trial would be held. One of the more popular sentences and punishments was being instructed to climb the tall flag pole outside the front doors. While climbing you would be receiving licks on the behind from the principal’s belt. Oh yes, I do remember the day the olive green Chevrolet drove up and took the eighth grader in for the Army. He had repeatedly ignored the draft notices. That’s something we can dwell on later.
One thing that happened without any advanced planning was we became united. It was us against the big city kids. We were united, you bother one of us you bother all of us. All grades, first through eighth were united as one. The older kids looked out for the younger ones and helped keep accidents from happening while at recess. Looking back at that time, I come to the conclusion that grownups could learn these traits and be better off for the attainment of unity. If there were disagreements, and there were, we didn’t let it change the face of the community. Grudges and disagreements didn’t last very long, we simply worked them out.
The lack of unity in the Republican Party is an absolute disgrace. Unfortunately these so called distinguished adults do not command the presence of mind we school kids had and cannot get beyond their petty differences. In the end, this will destroy the party as it has been know and it may never resurface. We the people, in order to form a more perfect union must unite. We must unite and force our elected representation to grow up and become united. Remaining a split party will ensure the election of the opposition, Bernie or Hillary.
I find it amusing that synonyms of unity are: harmony, accord, cooperation, agreement, solidarity, oneness, wholeness, and many more. All of which seem to be unknown by the Republican Party. How can an establishment Republican state he or she will never support the candidate of choice while still avowing to being part of the party? In this use party would suggest a group of oneness or wholeness, in agreement or accord. Were these dissidents ever truly Republicans, patriots or unifiers?
Do endorsements really matter? We have a do nothing congress of overstuffed politicos that have done absolutely nothing to help our nation. De we need an endorsement from these individuals and their political correctness? These are the next ones we need to usher into an earlier than expected retirement
If we that call ourselves republicans are not unified and in accord, how can we ever attract new groups or individuals with other views? For the Republican Party to survive it must consist of a united body welcoming other sects and ideas into the fold. We must become receptive to outside influences and sincerely welcome them.
If I were to give a state of the union announcement today it would be very short and direct. There is no need to wax poetically and expend many words and lots of hot air. It would simply be, “There is no unity in our union. God bless us.”
