CHURCH AND STATE

The thoughts and ideas expressed below are exclusively those of Jack Straley and www.justplaintalkwithjack.com  We may agree, and that’s fine, or we may disagree, that’s okay too.  My sole purpose is to encourage others to think, study, and become involved. Recently I was sitting in bible study group I regularly attend when another attendee asked the question “should politics be brought up in church, and if so how much should be allowed?’

Our Constitution clearly states the separation of church and state but it pertains to the government establishing a particular religion or mandating the attendance at such events.  In my mind the question asked above has an entirely different connotation, to an extent church is politics.  The Catholic Church, and every other protestant sect I know of, including Baptist, use the Bible as their foundation.  The Bible gives us clearly stated rules for living a moral life.  The 10 Commandments form the very basic rule for life and repeatedly stresses the sanctity of life, homosexuality, and acts of trying to supplant God with other forces.

I feel most, but not all, pastors today have tip toed around the teachings of God and preached a feel good message that appeals to the masses, hurts no one’s feelings, while not offering any plans for salvation.  When was the last time we attended church and were offered an alter call at the end of the services.  Sometimes we need an alter call simply for a time to communicate with God through prayer and reflect on the goodness of his acts and benevolence.  We also have time to accept and aid the hurts and distresses of others in a solemn, uninterrupted time.

Christmas and Easter find our sanctuaries filled with worshippers all clad in the best finery they can amass.  But what about the third Sunday of July or the second Sunday of October?  Do they interfere with summer vacations or are they stifled by the weather not being agreeable.  We can find all types to reasons to be convenience Christians.  We need to have ministers with the courage to enter the pulpit and speak the words of Christ and guide us to vote, act and live as much of a Christian life as we as humans can be.

The Democrat Party seems to be driving a path to extinguish religion and overturn all the teachings we have heard for the years.  The number one issue for Democrats to garner votes is abortion.  Anytime an abortion is performed, it is murder, pure and simple.  Women have the right to control their bodies and what happens to them.  They can decide to live a life of free and careless entertainment or not.  If this is the life they choose there are consequences.  The baby that began to form upon conception is not just a growth they can choose to eliminate at will, it is the beginning of a life God is creating and they are carrying in the womb, to abort is to kill one of God’s creations.  Yes, rape and incest are different issues.  Of all the abortions committed last year less than two percent were the result of rape or incest.  I do not understand how any person that approves open abortions can call themselves a Christian.

The Democrat Party is trying to eliminate our freedoms one at a time.  The right to free speech is under assault if you are speaking what the party disagrees with.  The second amendment is on extremely thin ice and will be overturned as soon as the Democrats and Liberals have a strong enough majority.

Politics will become the normal in church when we teach the principles, morals, truth, salvation and damnation as we are instructed in the Bible.  Yes it is political, but not Democrat or Republican.  It should guide us to vote with our soul and heart for the party or candidate of morality and truth.  We can continue on the journey we have traveled in recent years and we will come to know a Godless society.  This we do not want.  We must unite and return to the teachings of the one universal God. May thy will be done.
