We the American people are about as gullible as any assembled group of people, holding our collective breaths can possibly be. We tune in to the marketing hype, awaiting the moment the product can be purchased. We know not what is being sold, we just anticipate taking ownership of the big reveal. Such fools we are. I include myself in this assemblage of supposedly literate, educated people.
A debate is an argument or formal discussion on a particular subject usually in a public meeting venue or arena. There are two sides to the topic being discussed and both points of view are to be presented and then the viewer can determine which side he or she agrees with and act accordingly. A point, counterpoint is presented so all the facts can become known to all interested parties. Most often facts are bypassed.
We are sold a made for TV event as a debate, but it meets none of the descriptions stated above, and we gladly buy it. Two opposing sides to an issue are not explained nor argued. Pro and con of the issues is not detailed, and educated information is not delivered, but we gladly buy it. For days following the event we discuss and actually debate as to which party won the debate.
In reality, in a debate the panel or persons are offered a question to answer. When the one side completes their answer the opposing side has the opportunity to present the opposite side. We then can decide who is on the same train of thought we are. These are the decisions that affect elections. Contestants should not be asked different questions in the same questioning round, and if one side gets a rebuttal, so does the other.
Unknowingly we buy into a question and answer session that makes very little sense. Neither party, for the most part, answers the questions when requested to do so. The primary responsibility of the moderator is to present balanced, fair and equal questions to both parties and keep personal feelings, thoughts and prejudices out of it. That very seldom happens.
As with so many things the rules seem to get changed at the discretion of the controlling few. We are now told that the balance of debates will be virtual. President Trump states he will not participate in a virtual show. I support him on this decision however, I feel this is the result the Democrats were seeking. By having Trump refuse this format their darling, sleepy uncle Joe gets out of debating any further. They are a sneaky bunch and can never be trusted.
In summary remember this. We can vote for truth, honesty and transparency, or we can vote for socialistic evil control. That’s the debate. You decide. Four more years with Donald Trump as President is the way forward for the future.
A collection of diverse friends with equally diverse thoughts is the single most interesting way to gain knowledge.
