Once again we are getting reports of the numbers of Americans that have been infected with Covid-19, recovered from Covid-19 and died from Covid-19. We are nowhere near the millions that were projected to be infected and dead. This has to be very unsettling to many that were praying or total disaster and destruction.
The disaster and destruction we have experienced is our infrastructure and economy. Never in the history of this country have we shut down every business and crawled into self-imposed confinement. Our public officials need to wake up and realize that we do have a constitution under which we have rights. Governors and mayors, mostly democrat, have far exceeded their powers with the issuance of orders for the populace to cower to or face penalties.
The great winner of this whole debacle is Socialism. Government is dictating who can do business and who cannot. Government is distributing money to undeserving individuals and creating an atmosphere to encourage not working. I’m sorry some can’t pay their rent but Americans have always lived above their means for the most part and have not saved.
Our elected officials in Congress can look the cameras face on and look concerned about our situation and express compassion for the average working man. How phony can they be? With businesses closed, jobs lost and food too expensive to purchase they continue to draw their paychecks and live the good life. I am surviving purely because of sixty years of hard work. I don’t have multiple, high dollar freezers filled with expensive ice cream and treats to flaunt to others. Send Congress to work or stop their pay.
It is not and never has been the responsibility of government to guarantee individual paychecks or underwrite poorly managed businesses. States are now seeking bailouts; let them file bankruptcy like other businesses that can’t manage themselves do. A terrible precedent was sit when the government interfered with General Motors and did not allow them to go through normal bankruptcy proceedings.
We survived Polio, Sars, HIV, Spanish flu and many other catastrophes without running scared and shutting down. We have survive a Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korean Conflict, the Viet Nam police action and numerous conflicts in the Middle East. Why do we now let this virus destroy us? I am not un-scientific or a blind follower of radical right groups but I do want solid facts to base my conclusions on. Dr. Fauci was predicting millions becoming infected and millions of others dying with death rates as high as 25%. Now we are told the death rate is actually nearer 0.1%. That is not a catastrophe, it is a part of life.
These times do call for special acts. Mexico and Canada ca receive accolades for closing their borders with us to protect their people. Why was President Trump ridiculed so loudly for trying to take this same action? Let’s close all borders and stop all immigration until we have overcome this disruption. China is enjoying their expanding economy this pandemic has allowed. Large American companies are applying for and in some instances being granted stimulus money while expanding in China. All expansion of American interests in China must end now. American companies need to help grow America and contribute to its independence and sovereignty.
Let’s return to being America and Americans. Let us always remain free and independent. We need to punish China, but it will never happen. We need to be big and small business in action. We need entrepreneurs and inventors to once again show the world the power of America. We can’t do that hiding in our homes and living on government handouts. We are Americans, we need to act like it.
I don’t mind getting older, I just wish the rest of my body would feel the same way.
