Many are saying the mass media has become insignificant, I disagree. Never since the days of rampant yellow journalism has the media engaged in false reporting and absolutely no accountability to themselves or anyone else. The media today is practicing the largest display of mind-control or brain washing ever recorded.
Facts and truth be damned. The more sensational an article can be reported the more it is copied and spread to all corners of the world. If statements had to be substantiated and verified before being put in print for public consumption our papers would be no more than two or three page rags. Today’s class of so-called journalists would rather publish blank papers than to be held to a standard of truth and honesty.
Coronavirus or Covid-19 is the new hot sensation of today. Who even remembers the Swine Flu of a few years back? Sixty million infected in this country and no action by the Obama-Biden administration. No travel bans, no quarantines no public outcry for government to do anything. Look just a few years later and what do we have? Every talking head and would be journalist crying about the lack of action by Trump and associates, sensationalism not factual. Travel bans called racist, not true but initiated to protect America and Americans. The list can go on and on.
Sunday evening I see reporters on the verge of hysteria, tears in their eyes while voices tremble reporting that 139,275 cases of Coronavirus are confirmed in the United States with 2,436 deaths. These numbers are reported in a manner to create sensationalism and advance panic among the public. As we hear these numbers let us try to retain some sense of rationale or reality. No matter how you look at it you cannot change the reported 2,436 deaths. That is real. However the manner in which the reporting is done is so unnecessary. The 139,275 reported verified cases is told as if that is the number of active cases at this time, it isn’t. This is a cumulative total since the counting has begun. How many cases have already ended in a positive outcome? Plus and minus should occur all the time, but it doesn’t.
One deeply flawed so-called fact is the death rate. Media broadcasts the number of infected as 139,275 which in itself is erroneous. No one knows how many are infected because not everyone has been tested. The actual number may be five or ten times that number that are or have been infected which would make the death rate much, much lower. Those tested and confirmed are all we know, but how many have been infected, not tested, therefore not confirmed and yet recovered?
The loud Governor of New York exaggerates the needs of his state as if he has this many cases all at one time. He does not have this many and does not need the excessive amounts of ventilators and supplies he broadcasts. His is just an attempt at publicity and recognition. He needs the notoriety when he begins his run to replace the inept Joe Biden as the Democrat nominee.
It all comes down to a rare situation. The use of or lack of use of common sense. The situation is grave but common sense will abate the fear mongering the media spreads in its effort to demonize President Trump. Exercise common sense and practice basic health protection while spreading hope and faith in place of fear and lies.
God will help us through this if we are mature and sincere enough to let him. We each have to be comfortable within ourselves. Faith makes that possible and will see us through. If he can endure the suffering on the cross for us, he can most assuredly lift this temporary burden from mankind.
