I recently had the privilege of attending my class reunion celebrating 55 years since graduating high school. This was the third class reunion I had attended and it was great seeing old classmates and friends. It is so interesting to see where life has taken us and how our paths have led us back together at this time. It was really great to renew the acquaintance of one of my very best friends from high school. We haven’t met or visited but for a very few times over these last 55 years but we were able to catch up on lots of things.
I probably pushed the envelope for friendship by coming to this gathering wearing my Trump apparel. To my mild surprise I found out several of my classmates’ shared many of the same feelings about politics as I. However, much to my chagrin, there were some that held views completely differing from mine. At the end I think we were all still friends yet just like the rest of our country we were still entrenched in our own beliefs and were a divided group.
During this time we discussed many topics and I would like to take this opportunity to elaborate on just a few. I repeatedly heard how our President is a White Supremacist. I reflect and wonder if these individuals know what a true White Supremacist is. Webster says a white supremacist is a person who believes that the white race is inherently superior to other races and that white people should have control over people of other races. How can a man be called this when he has done so much to improve the lives of all minorities in this country and abroad to some degree. Blacks, Hispanics and Asians are prospering far better now than ever before. Unemployment is down for all classes and earnings are up. In no way has President Trump tried to hinder the advancement of any group of people. He is not a White Supremacist and he harbors no white guilt either.
References to the tax cut found people calling it a sham. President Trump worked a true tax cut for all Americans and all classes. People say they have calculated their taxes and will pay more under the new law. This is simply not so. Each payday these employee bring home more of his or her check than before. When yearly calculated taxes are performed there is a larger number due, but over the course of the year and all paychecks are included, fewer taxes have been levied. Net result is you have received a substantial tax cut.
Of course we discussed the border wall, legal versus illegal immigration and the treatment the criminals were receiving at the border. Yes, once a person crosses our border illegally, they become a criminal. The practice of human trafficking runs rampant at the border and drastic measures have to be taken to benefit the illegal in the long term. Parents, or people posing as parents, will be separated from their children (or supposed children) until true vetting and background checks are conducted. The responsibility for the separation lies totally with the illegal immigrant. If you don’t want to be separated, just don’t come. Parent child separation is no more or no less than what is exacted on an American citizen when going to jail for breaking a law. The parent is separated from the child because of the sins of the adult. Seems pretty simple to me.
Our last occupant of the White House was gifted a low economy. His action was to oversee the slowest recovery in history. Trump was told the GDP would continue to decline but the reverse has happened. Mr. Obama told Mr. Trump he would never produce 3 million new jobs. That number now actually stands at 6 million. Repeatedly Mr. Obama bemoaned the fact that the economy would never be able to grow at more than 1% in a quarter again. Amazingly this administration has seen growth triple that and more for several quarters.
People have said how cruel and brash Mr. Trump has been with others. Yes he has been. That is the style that generated his success dealing with unions and mobs in the dirty streets of New York City. I’m not saying it is good but it is the way it is. I also seem to recall our former Vice-President asking handicapped, wheel chaired individuals to stand for recognition and the asking of a deceased mother of another politician to stand for a round of applause. If we ever have any degree of success in cleaning up the mess in Washington, commonly known as the swamp, we will have to have someone that is rough and gruff and capable of rolling in the swamp and coming out on top. Please don’t insult me by holding up Rep. Pelosi, Rep Nadler or Rep Schiff as upstanding moral idols above the squalor of the swamp. They have helped create it.
The same loud crowd that proclaimed Trump was a war monger and would start WW III now moans the loudest while he attempts to bring our troops home. President Trump has shown leadership in his dealings with North Korea and Iran. He holds negotiations and stands his ground for the good of America. He has done more than any person in recent history to avoid war and has not paid billions of dollars in ransom to our enemies
The loss of American life is a factor day to day and how the political wind blows. Most Dems wholeheartedly support abortion up to and including late term or full term. Is this not a slam against the face of God and humanity? Wait, I can’t say that because it opens the door for discussion on Christianity and Faith, two taboo subjects in politics today for liberals. Government mandated morals are all the left leaning liberals can recognize. If the left approves it, no matter what, then it must be okay.
All of this has been accomplished with little or no help from Congress. Imagine the great things that could have been accomplished if our government had been united. It is a challenge to unite in a positive way when 70% of millennials are open to communism over capitalism. Most college age people state they prefer socialism over democracy and capitalism. However when both groups are questioned they cannot explain what communism or socialism really is. Another testament to the failure of our education system.
Get up, take a stance and work for your cause. As for me I still await the list of five positives the democrats have done that make you proud and could possibly make me change my position. I love America and feel you do too. We have differing opinions on how to lead our country through these tumultuous times. We must find a calm middle ground or we will have no country to debate.
Even when I’m wrong, I still think I’m right. Hope I never go left.
