Who is responsible for the United States being in the shape we now find ourselves? All acts performed by human beings causes a reaction and with it comes consequence. Our actions over the last fifty-five years has caused consequences that now threaten our way of life and the future of our country.
Most people my age grew up in a household headed by survivors of the great depression. Hard work, long hours, honesty and focus on being thrifty were always guiding ideals or examples for life. Most parents wanted life to be better and easier for their offspring than what they had experienced and was the trait most of us most closely inherited. Every generation since then has strived to make their children’s life better than theirs. I have been a classic example of that type of parent.
In the time from high school graduation to the present we have not done a good job of handling the affairs of our nation or preparing for a successful transfer of leadership. The current talk is of the Millennials. Although all generations are grouped together as one they are not the same. Not all Millennials are alike but we tend to group them as such. In my opinion we have a group, known as Millennials that are basically unpatriotic, atheistic, greedy and selfish.
Unpatriotic: We cannot watch news on TV, listen to news on radio or read printed media where we are hammered with young, future leaders, are protesting and driving toward a socialistic society. Too many patriots have fought and died so as to enable us to enjoy the freedom we have and the ability to enjoy the rewards of our efforts. There is nothing patriotic about redistributing the wealth to those too lazy to earn their own pleasures. We cannot remain a proud country without borders protected by patriots.
Atheistic: Church attendance has continued to weaken in the last fifty years. Other than leaning on the crutch of Christianity in politics, most leaders would like to eliminate acknowledgement of a Deity in their daily lives. We seem to act as if our motto of “In God We Trust” used on all currency is an embarrassment to the world view of us. Prayer and believing in answers and aide is panned as a comedy outside Sanctuaries and Cathedrals. The days of one or more Bibles displayed in the family home have been replaced by political correctness and attempts to not offend Muslims.
Greedy and Selfish: The current mood in our political leaders is to promulgate greed and selfishness. All democrat candidates and some republican are campaigning for socialism. The point they try to push, although it’s wrong, is that socialism is the only fair way to rule. The rich can be taxed into nonexistence to provide everything, need or luxury, to those that will not work for the just rewards. No individual will own property or businesses. Only the state will have that ability. Free education and free medical care for all is not fiscally possible and have our nation survive. Many of these individuals are so selfish that after receiving useless degrees in college that were mainly paid for with grants, scholarships and parents, still refuse to become active participants in a free economy. It is much easier to stay at home living off the labors of parents and grandparents.
An example of the reckless leadership we have performed and led our offspring to believe in is the public debt we have incurred. If our country can have excessive debt and never worry about repaying it, why should any individual feel any different? In 1964 we had a national debt in the amount of $312,000,000,000. Today our national debt is $22,022,825,153,825 or an increase of $21,710,825,153,825. This amount shows our government spent, without any means to repay, an average of $394,742,275,524 per year. Yes, that’s 394 BILLION DOLLARS per year.
It is our responsibility to change the way we educate the next generations. We need to start the process of teaching responsibility and independence. We must teach and show the rewards of hard, honest work. Yes I share the blame for trying to make my kids’ lives and grandchildren’s lives better than mine. In so doing I’m afraid I have shown them the way to destruction.
I don’t mind growing older, I just wish the rest of my body felt the same.
