VOCABULARY

Vocabulary is defined as the body of words known to an individual. This body of words is what we use daily for communication with others whether written or spoken. The level of education one has achieved is reflected in the depth of his or her vocabulary. One with little education will have a limited vocabulary and will revert to an excessive use of vulgarity trying to compensate for this shortfall.

While recently looking at tweets made by our president, or other personalities I happen to follow, I am seeing a flood of crude vulgar responses. Therefore, I must surmise that the majority of people replying to these tweets are uneducated and have a very limited vocabulary. There is so much nasty rhetoric used that the point of their rebuttal is lost with the verbiage they use.

We repeatedly hear of “Facebook” and “twitter” blocking content presented by certain individuals that is deemed as unsatisfactory. What criteria is used to determine if content is not worthy of being distributed over the airways and the internet. As a family man I find these words very offensive. I have 5 children ranging in age from 52 to 17. I have 12 grandchildren ranging from 35 years to 14 years of age. All of these people have their own, or access to, computers and continually surf the social media while being assaulted with this vulgarity. Have we become so hardened to this misuse of language that we will sit idly by and allow future generations to be entertained and led in this direction?

Who sits in an office in some remote location making determinations on what is acceptable and what isn’t. I can post any derogatory statements, substantiated or not, about our president, Supreme Court justices or any other high profile republican or conservative and it is accepted. Let me say one negative sentence about liberals, democrats or especially our past president and other politicians of color and I will be blocked, banned and possibly subjected to jail.

Russia can do very little to affect our elections but these groups of orators of vulgarity can and will change the outcome of elections if left to run rampant as they have been doing.

It is time to clean up our environment beginning with the social media. If rules are set, they must apply equally to all participants. We must educate ourselves and find the ways to force companies to treat all of us fair and equal. We cannot allow the flow of profanity to become the normal and have our offspring use it as If it were acceptable.
