FAITH

Faith, used as a noun, means to have “complete trust or confidence in someone or something.” We often hear people state they lost complete faith is some object or item they once stood by. I have a strong faith that there is a real, true God. One true God that created everything on this earth, and possibly worlds beyond our known universe. I try to retain faith in our elected officials, but this is becoming harder to do with each day that passes.

Today is primary election day here and in seven other states. We rise early and go to the polling site to which we have been assigned. In good faith we select the person we feel best suited for the position they are seeking. Our past elections show how poorly we have selected persons and how our faith was severely tested.

Our nation was founded with a basic Christian foundation. Our founding fathers, as skeptical as they were, had faith that good men would prevail and thus our nation would prevail. Their faith was grounded in a firm belief in God or a holy deity that ruled supreme. Professional politicians were unimagined and therefore never considered.

As this primary day unfolds, I reflect back on the television commercials I have been subjected to for the past weeks. If one is to believe any of the rhetoric spewed on these ads there is not one trustworthy individual seeking office. The printed campaign material flooding my mailbox has been just as confusing as the television ads. The billboards and personal appearances I have been exposed to have not helped in the decision making process. There is no such thing as positive or informative advertising anymore? Evidently no one is proud of the accomplishments they have attained but are quick to point out the shortcomings of their opponents. I have made my selections but I have very little faith in any of them.

All of this has proven to me there is a God that protects his sheep. Without God overseeing the actions of the elected politicians our government and nation would have disappeared long ago. Let’s keep “In God We Trust” on our currency then act like it is true. There is only one way to restore faith in our government. We must become educated on our candidates. We must know their achievements as well as their failures. We need to get out and vote for the candidates we can have faith in to perform the job that must be done to keep our country great. Prayer is a good tool to use when researching these individuals.

The thoughts and ideas expressed above are exclusively those of Jack Straley. We may agree, and that’s fine, or we may disagree, that’s okay too. My sole purpose is to encourage others to think, study, and become involved. Exercise your freedom and above all, when presented the opportunity, please vote.
