Being a resident, by choice, of Alabama, I really don’t want to criticize a fellow Alabamian. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has always appeared to be a respectable person with high integrity. He proudly served as our Senator and represented the people of Alabama for years. Just like Senator John McCain, has he outlived his usefulness? Maybe he is serving in a position larger than he is qualified to handle. It does not seem he has the President’s back as is the normal for this position.
We are dealing with a political swamp and this is not the first time an appointment has been made with good intentions, but was a mistake. Mr. Sessions was the first senator to get behind then candidate Trump, and by doing so had his choice of positions on the Trump cabinet. He sought and was awarded the wrong one.
Mr. Sessions has always been on the immigration band wagon. He has fought for secure borders, full vetting of immigrants and limiting the numbers of immigrants. He has repeatedly stated we, the United States of America, should welcome legal immigrants with talents and skills that are needed and will not be a burden to society. The current Secretary of Homeland Security, Ms Kirstjen Nielson, is not now and never has been a loyal Trump supporter. She sees no importance in border security or the border wall. She has campaigned more in the camp for the Democrats than for conservative republicans.
An excellent choice to replace Ms Nielson is Jeff Sessions. His past history is proof he could perform in that job much better than he has as Attorney General. A side benefit is he would not be in a position to recuse himself from any issue regarding the law and lawbreakers.
The vacancy created in the DOJ could be filled in short time. Senator Trey Gowdy has been campaigning for the position of Attorney General in recent days. Statements he has made about the FBI doing everything exactly right have me worried. I do not trust him after these remarks and it seems the fake major media is quietly backing him. It is my opinion that Senator Ted Cruz of Texas would be the ideal choice, if he would accept it. We would be vacating a republican seat in Congress but the benefits might be more than worth it. Mr. Gowdy is a well respected prosecutor and has made public his intentions to return to private practice. Let him go.
Mr. Cruz, if he were to accept the nomination, comes with excellent credentials. He knows the Constitution and will strive to uphold it and see that we are governed by its dictates. The biggest challenge we have in getting Senator Cruz nominated and approved are the pending 2018 mid-term elections. This nomination must be done before the elections, while we still have control of Congress. Once again I personally feel we will have a larger majority after the elections but there is an outside chance the democrats could be in power.
One more time I will state the obvious. We must turn out the republican vote if we want any single nominee our President might make to survive the confirmation hearings and eventually. serve
We are making giant strides in spite of the hateful distractions and government blocking antics being used by the opposing party. Don’t let us lose this momentum. Do your part to keep making America great and proud. Get out of your easy chair, become informed, register to vote and above all else vote early and often.
You may feel that I am wrong. But to quote a famous Republican, Mr. Barry Goldwater, “in your heart you know I’m right,” in more ways than one.
Jack, I throughly enjoyed your comments on the Sessions matter and agree with you on most. I am however cautious and a bit leery of placing Ted Cruz in a position which should hold loyalty as a priority.
Of course, he is highly qualified, and having argued many times before the Supreme Court, he is experienced in high degrees of litigation. However, he lost my confidence and respect when he went back on his word to support whichever nominee our party chose. Can he be trusted now to be loyal to the president or does he still hold bitterness against him. A. Question that I guess we won’t know until he is tested.

Wanda, I bring up Ted Cruz simply because his expressed knowledge of the constitution. As I have stated in the past, this is part of becoming informed and educated. Evidently my memory was short. Thanks
