SEVENTEEN

I think I can reach back into the deep dark corners of my memory and somewhat remember being seventeen and knowing all the answers (but I found I didn’t).. What I want to know is what gives the seventeen year olds of today the right to shout at we wizened older citizens acting as if they know all the answers.

The first post I made was on January 22, 2016 and was titled “I Am Angry.” Not a lot has changed. I’m still angry, I’m frustrated and I’m tired. But most of all I’m scared. I see hundreds of thousands of fifteen, sixteen and seventeen year olds filling the streets, marching and protesting the very document that gives them the right to do this. When interviewed on television they ever so confidently proclaim the Constitution of The United States of America is an outdated document than needs desperately to be discarded and replaced.

There are two main points they raise when complaining about the Constitution. Unfortunately their young brains have been saturated with liberal views and they know no better that to pick out both the first and second amendments for examples of the antiquity of our Constitution. They express the limits of education our founding fathers had while being entrusted to form this country. Only if education could be as serious today as it was then.

The first amendment concerns the right of assemblage and free speech. However, the young protesters will not endorse free speech that disagrees with their thoughts. Only when like minded people congregate is it acceptable. They do not allow constructive debate or more than one side to be expressed. These are today’s seventeen year olds and I’m tired of them preaching to me. They are seventeen and have very little life experience and regardless what they think; they do not know it all just yet.

The second amendment addresses the right of American people to possess and have guns. You may be scared of guns or ignorant on how to use them and what they are for. That’s your problem, not mine. I have taught each of my kids safety when using and being around guns. They know the proper way to use and care for guns and have never killed anyone. Gun control laws are not the answer. Enforcement of existing gun laws might help curtail the problems we are experiencing with certain individuals but new laws will not.

Criticizing the NRA is ridiculous. The NRA does more to educate people in the safe use and handling of guns than any other organization. We need to put the NRA in charge of a nationwide program to make our schools safer. They need to have the authority to perform in-depth background checks and offer certified training to former military, former police and public safety officials along with employees of schools, in any capacity, if these individuals want to participate. After the background checks and training they could be armed and on school property at any time there is an activity taking place there. Eliminating the gun free zones and having trained, armed personnel on premises’ is the greatest insurance for student safety you can employ.

To ban guns or outlaw guns is only an idiots dream for safety. There has never been a criminal, and very few deranged people, that know and obey these laws. They will have the guns and I still want mine so I am on a level playing field with them.

Seventeen year olds go back to school and stay off the streets protesting until you understand what you are protesting. Get an education and learn to not yell, scream and preach to mature adults that want to protect you.

Media, quit giving massive air time to a loud mouth teenager from Florida that was not affected by any shooting at his school, he just happened to be present that day although in a different part of the building. You are making him an undeserving hero mouthpiece. He may be book smart but he has no common sense. His 4.2 GPA didn’t get him accepted at four separate California universities. How smart is he? He wants to go to California for his higher education. Ha !!!!

You really don’t think I’m wrong, and you know I’m right.

The thoughts and ideas expressed above are exclusively those of Jack Straley. We may agree, and that’s fine, or we may disagree, that’s okay too. My sole purpose is to encourage others to think, study, and become involved. Exercise your freedom and above all, when presented the opportunity, please vote.
