The ACT has been taken and the realization of what classes are yet needed to insure graduation has struck her like a rock, square between the eyes. The fall session is beginning to wrap up leaving only one more session to go, the spring term. Senior pictures have been taken and the homecoming dress is back in the closet to probably never be worn again, at least by her.
All options for continuing her education are being explored. Research from community college, to the University of Alabama, and all It’s 2017 and my daughter is relishing her senior year in high school, as are her mother and I. schools in between is discussed frequently. Time is running out and no decision has been made. I have my own thoughts about college and firmly believe college is not the proper option for everyone. No matter how educated one becomes and qualified for special work they may be, they will never find true success unless they are happy in their endeavors.
In one discussion we attempted to show what education for some did to improve their status. Not unusual but politics worked its way into our conversation or discussion. Recalling our past Presidents and their education it was amazing how many had experienced an Ivy League school. We then began looking at the representatives and senators and their education background. We found that a vast amount of them had also come up through Ivy League schools. Most of our elected government officials had law degrees with many of them being earned through Harvard Law School.
As a rule, I have never been one to hold lawyers or politicians in a place of high esteem. Now I know why: Most but not all are elites from Ivy League schools. Looking back at the education they evidently received, it reinforces my feeling; college is not for everyone. The education these select individuals have has created a class of people not capable of running our country. Look at the mess these educated fools have made that we must live with. We should have realized they were not capable of exerting common sense when we looked at the amounts of money they paid these exclusive schools.
College is not for everyone, but most people can improve their lot in life if they get good honest educations. Basket weaving and community organization degrees do nothing to help our world. State colleges, community colleges, junior colleges and trade schools do an excellent job in educating people for a career in leadership and management. This is what our elected people need to be educated in, not greed and selfishness. The price paid for education does not have to be exorbitant and leave the student in debt for years to come.
It seems that the higher priced colleges have become not seats for learning but hotbeds for liberalism and socialism. Where are the schools that maintain a neutral air for politics or even lean a little bit to the right?
Let’s focus on some common sense and get rid of the Ivy League social club and elect people with morals, conviction and a solid conservative education.
I conclude with one thought, I cannot vote for or support any more Ivy Leaguers or elite lawyers. I want to know in plain English what they are saying and doing.
I may be wrong, but my education, through the school of life, makes me right.
