I am proud that I can unequivocally state that I am a citizen of the United States of America. My ancestors can from Germany, before the revolutionary war, and became citizens before there was a United States. They wanted to be American from day one. They left the land of their origin to come across the ocean and had no regrets for the hard times they faced. They were proud to be Americans and never once referred to themselves as German-Americans.
The Constitution of the United States very clearly states what it takes to be an American. At no point does this document state you shall or should refer to oneself as Arab-American or Afro-American. If you are seeking or have already obtained citizenship in this country why would you not drop the hyphenated names and proudly become an American? Shouldn’t part of becoming a citizen of this country include melding into the customs and laws of your new home?
We have a system of laws that has worked pretty well for over two hundred years. We don’t need to modify our laws to include the tenets of Sharia Law. Our people have a pretty standard way of dress, why deter from this and make yourself stand out from others.
We are a country of citizens from many differing origins. No one tries to prevent all types of immigration, as long as it is legal. Children born of American parents are automatically citizens of this country no matter where they are at the time of birth. Children that are adopted from locations overseas and brought to America by America parents are to become American citizens as if they had been born here.
The fourteenth amendment of the constitution was ratified in 1868. This ratification was immediately after the end of the Civil War and was primarily addressed to accommodate former slaves. This amendment addresses all legal ways to become a citizen. The first clause of the first section of the fourteenth amendment states the following; “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside.” Focus on the underlined phrase “subject to the jurisdiction.” This means if a couple from Mexico come to the United States and has a child, they do not become a citizen since the parents, being citizens of Mexico are subject to their jurisdiction. This covers the status of anchor babies or babies born of Mexican parents, regardless of how many years or generations they have maintained a residence in the United States, without having citizen status. This statute applies to people from any country when having children in this country. Regardless of the feelings of liberals and extremists, these children and their parents do not automatically become American citizens by the simple act of breeding.
There has never been a Supreme Court hearing concerning the fourteenth amendment. Maybe we need to have such a hearing to clarify the intent of the writers of this amendment. That would put an end to people like me causing controversy if everyone would obey the ruling.
Being an illegal resident of the nation does not automatically give the right to vote to anyone. Neither are illegal residents guaranteed the right to welfare and entitlements or better healthcare that poorer legal citizens are afforded. If you are leaving a place you do want to call home anymore, come on, but do it legally. Support yourself with a job, learn to speak the language and dress in a manner that does not draw attention to yourself and the location you are leaving.
I am an American and very proud of it. I accept the results of elections. I support my family through my work efforts and in my own way I live the American dream. If you want to be an American citizen, try doing it legal and forget those needless and offensive hyphenated names.

Jack, you are absolutely right. The concept of anchor babies is flawed legally, and it presents moral and ethical hazard. The combination of a robust social welfare safety net, porous borders, unenforced immigration law and the unlawful grant of citizenship to anchor babies – has resulted in an invasion.
What was the reason for this invasion? Why would a duly elected American president throw open our borders and confer citizenship on teeming hordes of unskilled, uneducated masses from the third world? The answer is simple: politics. Because for this ONE BRIEF MOMENT in American history, Democrats benefit electorally from destitute, illiterate, dark-skinned persons living in poverty in America. They see this as an enduring, future demographic for their party. They’re planting voter seeds. And they don’t care what this invasion does to our existing culture, our customs, our national identity, our language – they’re willing to sacrifice it all for votes. But here’s the flaw in their thinking: in American politics NOTHING lasts forever. Remember how when Obama was elected, the conventional wisdom was that Republicans would NEVER have a majority again? How Republicans would never win the White House again? That was just EIGHT YEARS AGO – and today, Republicans control everything, everywhere monolithically. That wasn’t supposed to happen. See, because the conventional wisdom, we were told, was that because America was increasingly brown, black and Asian – Republicans couldn’t win. Because the thinking is – everybody wants a handout and desires to be pandered to, forever. And it would NEVER, EVER change. Why are we allowing the Democrats to permanently alter the demographics of this country, for perceived, short term political gain? This is insane.
And what about the Republicans? Their alliance with the US Chamber of Commerce and some libertarian think tanks WANTS CHEAP LABOR – they want brown kids in this country to do the work AMERICANS WON’T DO….in other words, the work you and I used to do, but kids today are too spoiled and too damn lazy to do. You won’t get a middle class white kid to do the tough jobs, the minimum wage work – so to keep the economy juiced, we import unskilled labor from the third world. Dow Jones loves it! How is it “cheap” to provide health care, education and food stamps to immigrant labor? So we’re subsidizing cheap labor with our taxes while we destroy the culture and traditions that made this country great, for short term economic gain. Why don’t we bypass the middle man, and just let our KIDS start out doing the tough work – that would build resilience and character. It would mean our kids don’t end up on Prozac and Xanax just to get through college.
America has endured an illegal invasion and the “elites” of our society approved it. We need to close our borders and ONLY let in people who are ready to be Americans – and add value on day one. This isn’t 1717 or 1817 or even 1917. America is established now, we don’t need a “wave” of immigration, we won’t benefit one iota from immigration. We absolutely won’t. Yes, I am for pulling up the gangplank now that we’re all safely aboard. This is MY country, and I need to protect what WE have. I do feel sympathy for poor people in other countries, but that is not America’s fault, it’s not my fault – it’s the fault of the politics in their region. It’s the result of corruption and backward, socialist thinking. It’s governments based on envy, greed and force. America’s ONLY obligation to those countries is to influence their governments, their culture to be more like ours. And to continue serving as the shining city on the hill for them to emulate. Then maybe the teeming hordes won’t need to come here for a better life, they can build it in their own country.
