As a young person, like many others, I was obsessed many times. Maybe I still am. I was often obsessed with the idea I had to have that particular new toy. I probably didn’t get it. Oh yes, more than once I was obsessed about some extraordinary girl in school. We all have experienced obsessions in our life. Obsessions and being obsessed are not necessarily bad things. The strong desire to purchase some extravagant item can be good. Our economy is fueled by people feeding these obsessions. Life would indeed be very dull if we all ceased to have desires and cravings for frivolities, or obsessions.
Unfortunately, at this extremely critical time for our country, I feel many of our elected officials have misplaced obsessions. Under current law good men can and do run for office. However once there and exposed to the graft and corruption swallowing the entire political arena, most all become obsessed with their power, importance and ego. Career politicians aren’t exclusively located in Washington D.C. The obsession with getting elected and staying elected encompasses those continually retaining office whether local, state or federal.
One thing that Republicans Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell have in common with Democrat Barack Hussein Obama is their obsession with their desire to hold onto power and leave a legacy that will never be forgotten. They have proved over and over that they are excellent campaigners, but they have also proved over and over they are not leaders or care one bit about their constituents.
How refreshing it would be to have a governmental agency or body that was obsessed with exclusively working for the good and the betterment of the United States. It may be a dream but just think of all the things that could be addressed. Our national debt could be curtailed. All the useless, extravagant spending could be brought to a stop. Government strangling private enterprise with regulations enforced by the EPA, over taxation and obstructive law suits for products and the medical field would almost immediately cease.
I guess I am dreaming. In my dream I am obsessed with scenes of a perfect world. That perfect world was never promised us, and will never exist. But it is a nice image to have. Please don’t disturb me. Let me go back to sleep and continue this dream. See you later.
