CURSIVE WRITING

I can remember vividly my days in school sitting at my desk practicing writing and reading cursive writing. I was taught the proper way to hold the pen or pencil.  This was a goal all second and third graders at my school strived to accomplish.  Many spills were made from the fountain pens we were instructed to use, not a simple ball point pen.  This was a long time ago.

This was so long ago we did not have computers or word processors. If you were above average on the economic scale you might have your own typewriter and probably not an electric one.  There was no spelling or grammar check to fall back on.  If we were to write a 300 word essay, we had to count the words.  My, my.

I fast forward to today’s world and our education system. We no longer have to instruct people in penmanship and cursive writing.  The books we read are all printed; instructions for everything are printed in a variety of languages.  The future has everyone using the computer to write everything so no one needs to write or read cursive.

Once again I back up. I remember the first time I saw a reproduction of our constitution and the declaration of independence.  The beautifully swirling letters of elaborate cursive writing, and all the distinct, yet different signatures on these historic documents were bold and held real meaning…  It sent chills up and down my back.  It made me proud.

Now we have Common Core. We have no need to read or write cursive.  Our younger people will no longer be able to look at these documents and read and understand them.  In the continuing course of the dummying down of America, copies of what someone says are the constitution and declaration of independence will be distributed.  Students will be taught to believe anything presented, on face value, that it is a true and proper copy of the original document.  When will these people be able to read and discover that our constitution has been modified to meet the interests of special interest groups?  How long will it take for our constitution to be eroded and with it our freedoms?  The role of government will change, with government controlling our lives, simply because we cannot read and understand what we once had.

Common Core and Marxist doctrines that are being presented and taught in our schools will facilitate the fall of America into a socialist state. Every person alive will be touched and affected.  We must wrench control of our schools from liberals in Washington and return it to our local levels.  No one knows the needs of our community more than we do.

The thoughts and ideas expressed above are exclusively those of Jack Straley. We may agree, and that’s fine, or we may disagree, that’s okay too.  My sole purpose is to encourage others to think, study, and become involved. Exercise your freedom and above all else please vote.
