There is definitely a generation gap. It is said the accepted time per generation is twenty-five years. I am now experiencing or enduring that gap. I have lived the equivalent of almost three generations, and man oh man, have I seen changes.
Most of the changes I have witnessed have been for the betterment of mankind. I have seen us go from outhouses to indoor plumbing. I have watched as those cloth wrapped, black wires were stapled to the walls bringing electricity to the lone bulb hanging from the ceiling in the center of the room. I have stood bewildered as schools have progressed from the three room schoolhouse in which I started, to the sophisticated, wired emporiums of today. My big question is: did the education improve as solidly and rapidly as the structures?
Being born at the end of World War II, I saw the Korean conflict develop, followed by the Viet Nam era. Today we face the challenges of the turmoil in the undeclared war in the Middle East mixed with worldwide terror attacks. All this, with the loss of thousands of lives, has transpired during my three generations of living.
The new catch phrase I now hear is: America stands just one generation away from destruction. If this is true, and I have no reason to doubt it after witnessing what the last twenty-five years has brought, God please help us. This makes the current election process more important than any have ever been before. What party and what person can best lead us away from the destruction we seem to be racing toward?
Establishment politicians have done nothing to help us. Billionaires now fight billionaires to see who can force the most influence on the masses. It looks like the average working person is becoming more involved. Maybe it is time for change throughout our ruling class. The middle class, working people may not be as stupid as some elitists would have us believe. We have survived every obstacle that has been placed in our path to succeed. Common sense is prevailing over the Ivy League liberalism that is forced upon us. No politician knows my challenges and need more that I do. They cannot tell me how better to live my life than I can do for myself.
Now is the time for change. Let the working populace that funds this great experience called democracy and freedom, have a say. Let us return to the basics we were founded on. That being the right to live in an atmosphere of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Let us return to a government that truly is by the people and for the people. Let us be the strong respected world leader we have been in the past. If we have a stated enemy, let us destroy them, ignoring political correctness and fairness. Let us be winners again.
In my humble way I think we were successful as a nation when we remembered “In God We Trust” and we were founded seeking the guidance of the almighty. The more we stray from this concept, the weaker we become and our prestige fades.
We can make us a generation that excels rather than the generation that leads us to destruction. We must be active, involved, and willing to vote. This year your vote will count. Not voting gives your opponent a vote by default. Don’t let this happen this year. No one has the right to hold a coronation and step into the office of president and no one has the right to scream, preach and bully their way to leadership.
It is easy for my generation to criticize or question the actions and thought processes of younger generations. This is wrong but I do along with others. It is our obligation and duty to see that these newer generations are educated, informed and rational thinkers.
Let us become a great generation and help make America great again.
