INDEPENDENCE
It all started in the year, seventeen sixty-four
Men decided freedom, they needed more..
Men held a secret meeting in sixty-five
To start a great nation, that’s still alive.
Taxes were levied, making colonists strive
Beginning in the year, seventeen sixty-five.
More taxes were coming in the future years
Bringing most settlers, to shed more tears.
In seventeen seventy a massacre they had
Making protests violent, as things looked bad.
Taxes now were bad, as they ever could be
And slowly arrived, seventeen seventy-three.
A party was planned, for some ships at night
Involving their tea, that caused a great sight.
Sneaking aboard the ships anchored at sea
Into the salty water, they tossed all the tea.
King George got mad and passed more laws
This only fueled, the mad colonists, cause.
Red Coats were sent, to this far away land
And surprised they met a most wiry band.
Lexington and Concord warned at night
Being told the English wanted to fight.
Meeting the Brit’s, a hard battle unfurled
By a single shot, heard ‘round the world
At Bunker Hill, where a lesson they taught
These outnumbered men, bravely fought.
Signals received, midnight rides were made
For the start of freedom, a price they paid.
In eighty-one, a nation, they bound as one
Then a constitution, they found was done.
This nation, this country, independent stands
And wraps its freedom, all across the land..
