DISCORD

DISCORD

I have, on more than one occasion, had trouble using the correct word when there are two words that are similar in meaning. In reality, this is probably one of the more minor infractions I make in English or grammar.  I find myself at times having trouble distinguishing between the use of discord and discontent.  They are so similar but so different.

In this particular line of thinking I guess I could become confused as to which is proper between Democrat Party and Republican Party. I think discord and discontent both are running rampant in both conventions.  This may not all be bad.  Too much harmony could and does bring complacency.  Complacency we do not need in this particular election cycle.

As confused as I am, it seems the Republican Party is suffering from a possibly terminal case of both discord and discontent. There is open hostility between former candidates, both current year and prior years, and the presumed republican nominee. This displeasure between candidates and the power brokers is breeding bad feelings, bickering and pure displeasure between all interested parties.  This activity can lead to no good resolution that will better the standing of the Republican Party.  The divisiveness occurring will not see a republican elected and may well destroy the Republican Party.  If the Republican Party desires to see their candidate elected now they must come to terms with each other.

Failure to reach peaceful agreement will delay the election of a conservative for many years. Not only will be the office of president be held by liberals, so shall the Supreme Court.  We have strayed so far away from the dictates for governing as established by the constitution we may never recover.  Now more that ever we need to elect the closest person we have to being a conservative and constitutionalist.  Mr. Trump may be neither, but he is closer than his opponents.

The only good outcome I see from all this discord or discontent is the effect it may have on liberals and socialists in the Democrat Party. The open hate and dislike between the two democratic candidates can rescue the Republican Party and install some degree of conservatism in office.  Mrs. Clinton has no core base of support.  She repels as many women as she attracts.  She offends as many minorities as she proposes to help.  She is not likable.  These habits of splintering the voters could drive her unhappy supporters to vote for the opposition, the republicans.

The treatment that the Bernie faction feels the DNC has bestowed on him and his comrades is a huge problem for the democrats. The followers of Bernie are very devout and determined.  His supporters have no respect or positive feelings for the Clinton machine.    The treatment they have received may well lead many Bernie Babies to sit home and not vote, or better yet to go vote for the opposition, the republicans.

If the Republican Party can unite and act as an interested party that cares for this nation, they can benefit greatly. There has been laid in the lap of the Republican Party an opportunity to welcome women and minorities that have been ignored since year one.  To be a successful, viable party the republicans must extend the olive branch to every group in this country.  The days of the Republican Party being a gathering of old, rich, white guys, is over.  We have the opportunity to become the party of the people.  If we do not act at this time, we may never have the chance again.

Get acquainted with your candidates. Learn what they are about and the agenda they are pushing.  Get educated, register to vote, vote, and make your voice be heard during this critical time.
