PRAGMATISM
I have never read or seen a reference from history that states our founding fathers established this country based on a liberal or conservative basis. They approached each issue in calm practical manner that produced unbiased results. In these times the Republican Party and the Democratic Party can be called the Conservative Party or Liberal Party and be the exact same thing with the same approach to every problem they face. The underlying goal for both parties is preserve their establishments and the under the table money, not to serve the people.
Under these auspices maybe we have reached the time that a third party should emerge. This new party could be called the Pragmatic Party. As defined by Merriam-Webster pragmatism is the “act or means of determining a reasonable and logical way of doing things or of thinking about problems based on dealing with specific situations instead of on ideas and theories.” Maybe our issues facing our safety and security now could be dealt with in a pragmatic manner.
We have been served by a would be ruler for the last seven years that is an ideologue. This way of facing, approaching and trying to solve problems has been a complete failure. Our nation has lost the respect of other leaders worldwide. Our economy is a shell of what it could and should be after this period of governance. Political correctness has run rampant and interfered with otherwise workable solutions.
Three years ago the Republican Party ran a candidate that was supposed to be a staunch conservative. This candidate forgot to complete the campaign and basically quit running the last three weeks of the campaign. Many political operatives have become so far left or right they have deserted the wants, needs and concerns of the average working middle class.
A theoretical third “Pragmatic Party” could overcome these polarizing factions that today try to gain control of our government. If a pragmatic leader emerged and addressed our challenges in a reasonable and logical way and deal with specific situations, we could emerge as a strong, powerful and respected nation once more. This leader would need to have the support of a congress that actually works. We the people would face the challenge of electing a Congress not fractured with old time, establishment loyalties. This Congress would represent we the people and act in the best interest of the country not the political party. Any new party faces the challenge of falling into the same trap as both their peers. Too often reason and logic are overtaken by money and personal gratification.
This year we have to make decisions on the person we feel can best lead this country. We have two parties with multiple candidates competing for this position. Are any of the present contenders suitable and acceptable for the job? We have extreme liberal and socialist candidates on one side and at least one old party, establishment backed so called conservative on the other. The remaining two front running candidates share some ideals yet are as different as night and day. Throughout time many good people were elected to serve our country but became corrupted by power and greed.
Business tycoon and billionaire Donald Trump is leading the pack. I like his thoughts but can barely tolerate the way he presents them. He and Ted Cruz are both running because they care about and love this country. Mr. Trump stands in front of the others because of his pragmatic ways of attacking his business issues. Like him or hate him, one must admit he has been successful in business by approaching challenges in reasonable and logical manners.
Listen to his campaign speeches and you will see he speaks from his heart. He uses very few if any notes when orating. He definitely is not a conservative, nor is he a liberal. He has worked successfully with both factions and would attempt to do the same if elected. He is not a politician, but he is a pragmatist. Is this the emergence of a third party? Is this all bad?
The decisions we make now through November will determine our success as a nation and very possibly our existence as a free and independent nation. No matter who we elect, we have survived seven years with what we have, and surely we can survive four more years with any of our choices. Our choices should be completely vetted so we know what we are electing and then we must come together as a nation and support that person. By supporting the new leader we must demand Congress do something, not argue over politics, but do what they were elected to do.
