REVOLUTION

REVOLUTION

The United States of America was created as a result of a revolution. In 1777 a group of brave, dedicated men gathered and wrote a Declaration of Independence from British rule in order to establish self governance.  An armed revolt against British imperialism was the result of this declaration.  These, and other, gentlemen continued with their organization by writing a Constitution that would unite the colonies and form the foundation for the new nation.  This Constitution of the United States of America was adopted and signed in September 1787 it then had to be ratified by nine of the thirteen original states which was accomplished on June 21, 1788.  So began this great experiment in freedom and democratic rule.

Throughout the ensuing 228 years this nation has survived despite many conflicts and disagreements. Fortunately all of these differences, except one, were settled without force or an armed insurgence.  Our great Civil War started on April 1, 1861 at Fort Sumter, South Carolina when confederate forces fired upon union soldiers.  The war officially ended when Gen. Robert E. Lee surrendered to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9, 1865.  News of the surrender traveled slow and other skirmishes continued.  The last battle of the Civil War was fought at Palmetto Ranch in Texas on May 13, 1865.  Afterward, we once again became one nation.

We have witnessed other countries around the world fight wars while trying to establish a similar type of government for themselves, some successful, others not so. The United States has participated in two World Wars, the Korean Conflict, and Viet Nam, Grenada and most recently in the Middle East.  The interests of our nation, independence, freedom, peace and security were always in the forefront of each of these encounters.

Once again our nation is at a crossroads fighting for our survival and sovereignty. The presidential election of 2016 is the battleground.  Career politicians and members of the political establishment hesitate to admit there is a revolution underway at this time.  There will be no bloodshed or violence in this revolution, but make no mistake, it is a serious battle to determine the future of this nation.  The positions the candidates and major political parties hold on all the issues we face are as different as night and day and will alter the path this nation will take in world affairs and prestige.

There will be no ambushes with shots fired in this revolution. However, lives will be affected just as if it were an armed uprising.  The weapon that will be used is the vote.  Depending on your point of view, some votes will be cast wrong while others that agree with you will be cast correctly to preserve our ideals.  There is only one way to vote with confidence and be self assured that yours was the proper or correct vote.  We have the responsibility to explore every avenue available to uncover the true stance of each candidate on each issue.  We can determine the trustworthiness of each candidate by researching past votes, arguments and stands on the issues and if they have changed views and why.

It is our solemn duty to become educated through research, discussions with others while listening to interviews of each person seeking election. Once educated, or while becoming educated, become involved in our communities and local areas.  Support your selection and be prepared to offer a defense as to why you have made your particular choice.  Verify that you are registered to vote.  If you have recently relocated, even within the same city, you may need to reregister.  Once registered, go to the polls, while offering others transportation to the same, and encourage others to participate.  Then vote.  Vote early and vote often if you can pull it off, but at least vote, your vote will count.

Become involved in the revolution. Fight for what you feel is the best way our country should proceed.  Whatever the end result, accept it, and then we can become one united nation, under God, again.

The thoughts and ideas expressed above are exclusively those of Jack Straley. We may agree, and that’s fine, or we may disagree, that’s okay too.  My sole purpose is to encourage others to think, study, and become involved. Exercise your freedom and above all else please vote.
