JOBS
I am a very fortunate person. I first went to work in a car dealership in 1961 in my hometown. I have worked within the same industry continuously since that time. I was under age for driving so my father surrendered his license due to illness that I might obtain one. I was proud to work and proud I was able to contribute to the welfare of my family. During these 55 years I have never been without a job. I have relocated several times for new jobs but always in automotive industry..
Fortunately, I was raised with a strong work ethic. It seems somewhere along the line I and many others of my generation did lots of things wrong. One thing that went amiss was the ability to teach our offspring that same work ethic. We have given them too much; we wanted their life to be better than ours and basically spoiled them.
It is a shame and disgrace that when asking a younger person what they wanted to do when they grew up I received this answer, “I want to get on welfare like my mom and not have to work.” Unfortunately this is the generation we have raised and are raising. Is it any wonder why Bernie Sanders has such a great following? We have great jobs available in this country; we just don’t have people that want to do them.
The monthly report on jobs that our government relates to us is phony. If we were to put a stop to the illegal immigrants coming in we would create a demand for workers and pay would rise due to supply and demand. If one takes a job that he/she feels is not a career maker they can always continue to seek a better one. For the most part, we are responsible for our own success or failure.
I hear on radio and television about the trillions of dollars big corporations have amassed that is lying in bank accounts overseas. These companies are reluctant to bring this money to the United States due to the exorbitant taxes they would be forced to pay. Let’s look at a possible solution. Declare the money tax free or enact laws eliminating the taxes on money brought from off shore operations, with one condition. Bring the money home and within a specified time invest in growing manufacturing, infrastructure and other areas. This would create an untold number of jobs. The production and taxes earned from this working capital would more than replace the taxes that were waived. We would find ourselves in a situation that we are begging for workers to come here, legally.
A college education is more readily available to everyone than ever before. College is not for everyone. We need to promote schools that teach the trades. When we accomplish what many evidently think, and everyone has gotten a degree, we will have the highest priced plumbers you can imagine. There is no shame in being a professional welder, HVAC technician, automobile mechanic or a vast array of other professions. An honorable day’s work for an honorable days pay is a treasure.
It is time to quit spoiling ourselves, and future generations, into creating a perpetual welfare state. Nothing is free; someone always has to pay the bill.
The time has come to vote. We must vote for people that will not campaign on wealth redistribution, welfare increases and free healthcare for life, among other things. The only way to affect the changes needed is to vote. Learn who has the same ideals that you do, promote them and the vote for them.
