CHOICES

CHOICES

During our lifetime we make choices, both large and small. Without thinking about it make many, many decisions and choices every day. Throughout the course of recorded history it is hard to imagine the billions and billions of choices that man has made.  Some choices are small and necessary to sustain our lives, such as what we eat and when we sleep, but of no major consequence to others or mankind as a whole.  Other decisions can often change the course of history.  We are now at the crossroads where we have to make the most important choice of our country’s history.

Our Constitution was adopted September 17, 1787. This enduring document gave explicit rules as to how the people of this country would select a president.  The first election was started on December 15, 1788 and was completed on January 10, 1789.  The first presidential election was the only one that ever took place in a year not divisible by four.  This election was conducted in parts of two years.  Since that time all general presidential elections have been conducted on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in the month of November in any year divisible by four.  At that time many of us make a choice between the presidential candidates.  We hope our choice will elect the best person to lead this country for safety, security, positive economy and its general welfare.

This year we will end up, after the primary races are completed and the respective party conventions are over, with one Republican candidate and one Democratic Candidate, with their choices for vice-president, as a team, to choose from. This will be the most important choice we have made in the history of this nation.  It is our responsibility to make informed, intelligent choices at this time.

The Democrat Party has two candidates vying for the opportunity to represent their party. Each of these candidates must be looked at, studied and scrutinized about the stance taken on the issues at hand.

One choice is Bernie Sanders, a Democrat from Vermont. Mr. Sanders proudly and repeatedly states he is a Socialist.  We do not need or want a Socialist in any office of power that concerns this nation. Once again I turn to Merriam-Webster for the definition of a Socialist.  Their definition is “one that believes in a system of organizing a society in which major industries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies.”

The other choice for the Democratic Party is Ms Hillary Rodham Clinton. This lady has served as first lady, senator, and Secretary of State.  Under her tenure there have been no positive accomplishments to boast.  She states she is a Progressive Democrat.  The definitions of a Progressive Democrat are so wide ranging I wouldn’t attempt to state them here.  When asked, this lady cannot tell one the difference in a Socialist and a Progressive Democrat.  If she can’t explain what she is, or the difference from others, we do not want her making decisions for our country.  We will not discuss any of the legal situations surrounding this candidate at this time.

Hopefully you can see what the Democrat options are. The Republican Party has a wide field of candidates to choose from.  The Republicans have old party establishment candidates and political new-comers to choose from.  It is your responsibility and duty to know your candidates and what they stand for.  You need to know if their position on issues has changed over time and why.  We need to elect the best person available, not the lesser of two evils.  We have a choice.  Please don’t waste your vote or sit idly by while others vote.

I have a choice to make. I have decided to support and vote for the Republican candidate no matter who is selected.  I do not want an elderly Socialist or a Progressive Democrat that doesn’t know what the truth is, representing me or my country to the rest of the world.

The thoughts and ideas expressed above are exclusively those of Jack Straley. We may agree, and that’s fine, or we may disagree, that’s okay too.  My sole purpose is to encourage others to think, study, and become involved. Exercise your freedom and above all else please vote.
